Ride My Moment Now: #1 of the Pure Subject, No Object series, a dance video ‘travel log’ created by Felicity Bott as part of a Churchill Fellowship International Travel Grant, July-September 2008.

Dance: Improvisation by Felicity Bott (locations in Brooklyn and Tribeca) and Chris Brown (on the Times Square Wrigleys Extra advertisement).

Location: Apartment and streets in Brooklyn, Battery Dance Company Studios in Tribeca, and Times Square in July 2008

Comment: This video is part of a larger dance ‘travel log’ that records dance improvisation done in 12 cites, 2 in the US and 10 in Western Europe, over 8 weeks in 2008. For this particular log entry, attending a live performance by Radiohead in New Jersey that same week influenced track selection.

The military-industrial complex looms large in the concluding minutes of this video in the capture of US Army and General Motors promotions on the large Time Square screens. It was 11pm on a Tuesday night and the square was full of people. Under the glare of the advertising and international franchises on the square, it was truly a moment when pieces of the socio-cultural jigsaw of which I am a tiny atom-sized piece, ‘fell into place’.
